Values and aims

It is important to have a core set of values that we can work with when delivering the strategy as well as having key aims.

Values

These values underpin our activities.

Collaboration

Promote and support collaboration and information sharing while avoiding duplication and reinvention. We will promote the best of new “connected age” technologies to enable organisations to work more closely together

Empowerment

Empower individuals and organisations to make informed ICT decisions and reduce the dependency on “ICT experts”. By offering high quality and impartial information we can promote real choice for organisations making ICT decisions

Inclusion

Put accessibility and digital inclusion at the centre of all activities, and aim to increase media literacy and digital inclusion for all stakeholders

Flexibility

Be responsive and flexible to changing needs of the sector

Sustainability

Promote long term sustainability of ICT strategies within organisations

While the work of the strategy will be of benefit to the entire sector, we are committed to focusing on small and medium sized voluntary and community organisations.

Aims

  1. To help voluntary and community organisations become more effective and innovative in their use of ICT through advice, information, and training.
  2. To ensure that voluntary and community organisations are not disadvantaged by a lack of understanding of potential of ICT
  3. To develop a sustainable support model for the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland

Michael left a comment on our aims. He thought that Aim 2 could be made more positive:

“ensure that VCOs are not disadvantaged by a lack of understanding of potential of ICT” to become “assist VCOs to fully grasp the potential of ICT and embrace the opportunities that it can bring”

I certainly think that the move to more positive language would be helpful.
